The subjects, bathed in this ethereal light, are less portraits and more formal elements within a study of light and shadow. Editor: So you see the distortion of light as key to understanding it? Curator: Precisely. The formal qualities supersede the narrative. The stark contrasts and unusual presentation invite us to analyze the visual relationships first and foremost. I find the textural juxtapositions of the smooth wall and patterned blanket particularly interesting. What about you? Editor: I agree, the focus on form definitely reshapes my understanding of the scene. I initially missed the formal elements.
