Curatorial notes
Editor: This is an intriguing image by John Deusing, it's an untitled photograph of a woman with a doll and baby carriage. The ghostly, high contrast makes it feel otherworldly. What strikes you most about this piece? Curator: The reversed image and domestic scene highlight issues of representation and gender roles. Who is this woman? What were her options and constraints? What does this image say about domestic expectations? Editor: I hadn't considered the social implications so deeply, but now I see the questions it raises about societal expectations. Curator: Art, at its best, should challenge us to confront those questions. Editor: I agree. Thanks!
