This gelatin silver print, titled 'Gezicht op een huis of hotel in de Harz' was made by Geldolph Adriaan Kessler. It’s as if Kessler framed a fleeting moment, hasn’t he? I can imagine him walking by and thinking, ‘That’s it, that’s the shot.’ The dark trees almost consume the composition, drawing your eye to the building nestled in the background. It’s not just a building; it’s a silent observer, a witness to the ebb and flow of time. I wonder what Kessler was thinking. I can almost feel his presence, camera in hand, wanting to capture the essence of this place, a place that is both familiar and strange. In painting we often talk about creating a portal. Photography does that too, doesn't it? It makes me consider the conversations artists have with one another across generations, the way one person's way of seeing can spark a whole new way of thinking. Art's an ongoing experiment, full of questions without answers. What do you see?
