Hanno Karlhuber's painting "The Search" is a mesmerizing meditation on light, darkness, and the journey ahead. Imagine Karlhuber, brush in hand, layering thin glazes of color to evoke that liminal space between day and night. See how the cool blues and dusky pinks of the sky meet the warm glow of the car's headlights, illuminating the road ahead. I'm thinking about his choice of such a melancholic and atmospheric scene, and how the car's headlights cut through the darkness. Is it searching for something lost, or simply moving towards an unknown destination? Like Gerhard Richter, Karlhuber is interested in the way paintings can create a sense of distance and detachment. They both capture a moment in time, inviting us to contemplate the passage of time, and the elusive nature of reality. And, like all good painters, Karlhuber leaves space for us to bring our own stories to the canvas.
