Richard Diebenkorn made this drawing of a reclining nude stretching out her right leg, with ink on paper. What I see here are these elegant lines, almost like he’s writing, but with a body. You can see the confidence of the line, how it travels and sometimes doubles back, like he's searching for the right curve or angle. I imagine Diebenkorn, maybe in his studio, just thinking about Bonnard or Matisse, those guys who loved to draw women indoors. And there's a real sense of intimacy in the pose, like he's capturing a private moment. But what I love most is how the lines aren't just describing the figure, they're also creating a space around her. The way he suggests the folds of the sheet or the light coming in through a window, it's all about creating a mood, a feeling. And it's a reminder that drawing, like painting, is about so much more than just representation. It's about feeling, memory, and connection.
