Edith Magnette made this drawing of an Apron, but we don't know exactly when. Look at this off-white apron, dotted with brown and off-white flower pots. It’s bordered by a band of red and white geometric lace. Did Magnette do this drawing as a record, or to immortalize a thing of beauty? I feel like she really loved the objectness of this apron, its gentle folds and soft pattern. I want to look at more of her work. I wonder if other artists who make records of objects feel like the object takes on a new significance in the form of a painting. Painting, like any art, is a transformative process—we pick up new ideas from each other, across time. Magnette, wherever you are, thanks for sharing this beautiful apron with us. It’s inspiring me to see what is usually overlooked!
