This is "Mechanic Imitation" by Rodrigo Franzao, and looking at the fluid, swirling brushstrokes against that bright blue ground, I imagine him layering oil paint with a certain freedom. These aren't tentative marks; they're bold assertions. I wonder what Franzao was thinking, juxtaposing these soft, organic forms with the hard-edged geometry of the cut-out shapes? The red and yellow against the blue create a push-pull dynamic across the surface. Those looping, snakelike curves have a bodily feel, like an intestine, and the geometric shapes almost seem to cut into that space like scalpels. It reminds me of the work of artists like Elizabeth Murray, who combined abstraction with recognizable forms in playful, off-kilter ways. Ultimately, painting is a conversation and exchange of ideas across time. In this way, Franzao invites us to see, think, and experience the world through his eyes, embracing ambiguity and uncertainty.
