This is André Dunoyer de Segonzac's ‘La Table apres dejeuner’, and it's a great example of how a quick sketch can capture an entire mood. Look at the crisscrossing lines. They’re all hatched together, like the artist is thinking out loud on the page. The composition feels so intimate, like a personal moment frozen in time. It’s like he's inviting you to sit down at the table with him after everyone has left, or maybe he is remembering this moment in his mind as he sketches. I can imagine him thinking about all of the post-meal stuff, you know? The full glasses, the crumbs, the remnants of the meal. Maybe the dog at his feet is his companion as he takes a moment of quiet before cleaning up. I love how one little drawing can tell you so much. Segonzac is an artist who inspires me to keep my practice loose and personal.
