Janet Fish created ‘Preserved Peaches’ using lithography techniques. The artwork presents an array of jars filled with vibrant, ripe peaches. The immediate impression is one of translucent, light-infused colour. Fish uses colour and form to explore semiotic layers within the everyday object, transforming it into something of aesthetic interest. The peaches, rendered in warm yellows and oranges, are suspended in glass, each slice seemingly glowing, reflecting light and creating a sense of volume and density. The jars themselves, outlined with bold, graphic strokes, evoke a sense of solidity and presence. The composition destabilizes conventional still-life; the peaches are not merely objects but carriers of light and colour. The artist focuses on the interplay of these elements, questioning the boundaries between representation and abstraction. Ultimately, the piece is not only a formal exercise in colour and form but an invitation to reassess our relationship with the mundane and the aesthetic potential it holds.
