Here are Niels Larsen Stevns' sketches of ornaments and frame profiles in graphite on paper. Note the recurring motif of the sun. Since ancient times, the sun has been a symbol of life, energy, and renewal. Its representation has taken countless forms across cultures. Think of the Egyptian sun god Ra, or the Greek Helios, each embodying the sun's power in human-like forms. Here, the sun appears as a more abstract ornament, but it carries echoes of its mythic past. The motif taps into a deep-seated, primal response. It is a universal symbol that transcends time. It evokes feelings of warmth, vitality, and the eternal cycle of life and death. The sun reminds us of our connection to the cosmos and our dependence on its life-giving force. The cyclical progression of this symbol is fascinating. It resurfaces, evolves, and takes on new meanings, yet always retains a glimmer of its original, potent significance.
