Editor: We're looking at Camilla d'Errico’s "Centrum," created in 2020. It's a stunning painting, maybe watercolor or oil. I'm immediately drawn to the contrast – this pearly egg shape surrounded by delicate butterflies, and then this explosion of rainbow rivulets. It feels both serene and chaotic. What stands out to you? Curator: The butterflies are traditionally symbolic, you see? Emerging, transformation. The egg—a vessel, full of potential. What interests me is how the artist disrupts that visual language. The rainbow flow, that breach, becomes the disruptive force, a violation, perhaps, of an idealized cycle of life. Rainbows after storms, the LGBTQ flag… d’Errico paints cultural memory, and asks: what happens when we break the shell? What new meanings emerge? Is it birth or is it wound? Does that contrast between naturalistic and pop-surrealism enhance the painting? Editor: It's thought-provoking! The realism of the butterflies almost clashes with the psychedelic colors. Is that intentional, do you think? Curator: Exactly. The familiar grounding of the butterflies and the egg, in direct conversation with the unknown and abstracted elements in bright rivulets.
