Dale Hickey made Foyer, Bercy Theatre with what looks like synthetic polymer paint, perhaps, and that yellow, it's very specific. The colour and the flatness work so well with this kind of mundane subject. I keep thinking about what process Hickey used to make this. I mean, did he make a preparatory drawing? Did he use masking tape? Or did he just go for it? It's so hard to tell, but there is something so satisfying about these clean lines. There's this area to the left of the column where the carpet meets the wall that isn't quite perfect, almost like the artist changed his mind, and in that little section, you see the hand of the artist, the history of the gesture. It reminds me a bit of Giorgio de Chirico, but if he worked at Disney. Anyway, it's cool.
