Pekka Halonen made this print of Halosenniemi in winter, and it's like he was trying to capture the quiet feeling of a snowy day. The whole thing's in shades of grey, built up from tiny lines and dots. It's so delicate, especially in the way he’s rendered the snow. You can almost feel how crisp and cold the air is! It's like the whole scene is hushed, almost holding its breath. Look at the group of figures in the distance. They are so faint that they almost disappear into the snow! That delicate touch echoes back to Whistler's etchings of London, or maybe even some of the quieter moments in Munch. But Halonen brings his own sensibility, rooted in the Finnish landscape, to this conversation. Art is so cool like that.
