This is ‘Sheet B’ from the ‘Ukrainian alphabet’ album by Heorhiy Narbut, it’s an ink on paper artwork with all these crazy graphic devices going on. I love how Narbut's got this super flat, almost stencil-like approach, using colour sparingly, like a kid with a new box of crayons, deciding where to make a statement. The way he lays down those triangles and the careful application of solid red, you can almost see him working, thinking, figuring it out. Take a look at the figure in the center, how the bold red contrasts with the geometric pattern, the texture of the hair, and the clean lines of the figure. It's not just about what's depicted, but about how the materials themselves—the ink, the paper—speak to each other. And it reminds me of other artists who play with lettering, like Jess Collins and his 'Translations' series, which explore the way words and images combine to create multiple layers of meaning. What's the meaning? It's open to anything, and everything.
