Camilla d’Errico made ‘Kitty Titties’ sometime in the 20th century using paint, with a capital P! The way the colours bleed and blend, it's like she’s thinking about the artmaking as a process, a flow, rather than a fixed thing. I’m really drawn to how the paint drips from the top, this beautiful rainbow cascade melting down. The colours are so luscious, like candy, but then they get all mixed up and messy, which is kind of how emotions feel, right? D’Errico’s handling of the paint has a mind of its own, each colour retains its integrity while contributing to the overall effect. This drip effect continues down to the breasts where the artist paints these funny little cat faces, which feels like a comment on how we view and objectify the female form. It makes me think of Nicole Eisenman, who also isn't afraid to mix humour and figuration, playing with the grotesque and the beautiful. Art's best when it stirs things up.
