Joshua Flint made Dollhouse III using paint, sometime around now. It's built with layers that feel both precise and totally intuitive. The colors are muted, kind of dreamy, all blues and browns. Look at the surface, how Flint lets the paint do its thing. It’s not about hiding the process, but about embracing it. See how the light from the city kinda dissolves into the darkness? There’s a freedom in how he applies the paint, thick in some spots, thin in others, almost like he’s sculpting with the brush. That little girl with the big bow, she's like a ghostly presence, caught between worlds. It reminds me a bit of Gerhard Richter, in how he plays with focus and memory. Flint isn't trying to give us all the answers, and the lack of answers, the ambiguity makes it so compelling. It’s like he’s inviting us to get lost in the possibilities, to find our own story in his world.
