This "Briefkaart aan Philip Zilcken," or postcard to Philip Zilcken, was made by Frans Erens in around 1900. It looks like Frans used ink to write to Philip. The writing slopes, a bit like my painting practice - nothing is ever straight! I can imagine Frans quickly jotting this down, maybe in a cafe, thinking about his friend Philip. It's cool to think about artists connecting with each other through little notes like this. The stamp and the postmark give the card a sense of history, like a painting with layers of texture. Maybe Frans was telling Philip about a new idea or just saying hello. Artists, you know, we are always chatting to each other through our work and these little snippets of communication. It’s like we're all part of a big, ongoing conversation, bouncing ideas off each other across time and space.
