This is a Lute-guitar made by Giuseppe Carlo Fratelli Fiscer. Notice how the structure of the instrument is a study in contrasts. The lute-guitar presents an ovoid body that resolves into a slender, linear neck. Observe the visual tension between the dark ebony fingerboard and the warm hues of the wooden body, complemented by the geometrical precision of the soundhole rosette. The guitar’s sunburst design is echoed in the arrangement of the tuning pegs, which are arranged with formal symmetry. This piece prompts consideration of how functionality intertwines with aesthetics; form dictates the auditory experience. The interplay of light, texture, and geometrical form suggests a semiotic system in which each component symbolizes a distinct aspect of musical expression. A symbol for the blend of tradition with innovation through its composite form.
