This print of a fight scene by the Glen Twins is so raw and visceral, it practically throws a punch. The limited color palette – browns, blues, blacks, and white – creates a stark contrast, amplifying the tension of the scene. I imagine them hunched over their printing blocks, carving out the figures and shapes, each gouge a deliberate act of aggression. What were they thinking? What personal experiences fueled this depiction of violence? Were they working together, bouncing ideas off each other, or was each twin lost in their own world of creation? Look at the way the figures are rendered! Bold, graphic lines capture the force and energy of the brawl. The figures are intertwined, limbs flailing, bodies straining. The texture is rough, almost crude, adding to the sense of chaos and brutality. I'm reminded of those grainy black and white crime scene photographs - or maybe a scene from a 1950s movie. But it’s also pure Glen Twins, rooted in their own unique vision. There is nothing fixed here, just bodies in motion, and a moment of pure energy.
