Editor: This is Bridget Riley's "Ra 2," a vibrant print of vertical stripes. I'm struck by its cool color palette. What’s your take on how Riley uses color and form in this work? Curator: Look at the materiality. The flatness of the printmaking process is key. Riley democratizes art, moving away from traditional painting's emphasis on the artist's touch. The repetitive stripes also speak to industrial production. Consider the social context: how does mass production influence our perception and consumption of art? Editor: So, you're saying the *making* of the art is as important as the art itself? Curator: Exactly. It makes us question what constitutes "art" when the artist's hand is less apparent. Editor: That’s a completely new way to appreciate it for me. Thanks!
