Winter Flower 2 

Winter Flower 2, by 鲁邦林, is built from layers of brushstrokes. Paint is a humble material. Pigment suspended in a binder. It's readily available, mass-produced, and, like any medium, invites the artist to reveal its potential. The build-up of paint creates an interesting visual tension between the flower itself and the surrounding space. The thick impasto of the pigment gives a unique texture and tangible quality, inviting closer inspection of the painting's surface. Paint is labor intensive, and this work shows the artist's hand, in the immediacy and energy, with which the paint has been applied. The social significance of the medium is in its capacity to represent, communicate, and allow the artist to express their vision, offering a window into their emotions, thoughts, and perspective. Ultimately, this work demonstrates how even the simplest materials can become a powerful tool for artistic expression.
