Curatorial notes
This photograph, ‘Gezelschap wandelend op paden bij de ruïne van het Kasteel van Coucy’ was taken by Delizy. Look how the path draws you in, right? It's this bright ribbon slicing through the dark wild grass, a very tonal scene, so like a pencil drawing. The figures are like punctuation marks in the landscape. The texture is something else – you can almost feel the scratchy, overgrown edges of the path, the way the light hits the wispy grass, and taste the dust that rises with each step. It's like Delizy is saying, hey, even a snapshot can be about the layers, the feel, the real stuff. I’m reminded of Eugene Atget, how his photos captured a particular time and place. Photography is a conversation, each image speaking to the next, echoing and riffing on what’s come before. It’s also, like any good art, a question, not an answer.
