This Circular Tin Bath Tub was drawn by Wilbur M Rice, but we don't know when. It is rendered in graphite and crayon on paper. Look closely, and you'll notice the texture and the way the artist has used these media. It's not about hiding the process, but about revealing it. You can see the hand at work, the layering of graphite and crayon. Take a look at the area around the seat and how the artist works to describe the form, the materials, the way light falls. The materials! You can almost feel the coolness of the metal and the slight grain of the paper. The lines are firm and sure, but there's still a looseness. This piece reminds me of the architectural drawings of Paul Klee, in the way it combines observation with a kind of playful abstraction, opening a space for us to see the world, and art, anew.
