Lucille Lacoursiere made this woven coverlet. Just imagine the back and forth, up and down, side to side, of the shuttle through the warp, the threads shifting and emerging like thoughts in your head. I can feel the artist's patience and care as she meticulously worked each thread, building up these earthy tones of brown, cream and beige to form a checkered landscape. What was she thinking as she made it? Was she dreaming of the countryside, or simply enjoying the rhythm and process? The texture alone invites touch, doesn’t it? You can almost feel the give and take of the woven material. This is a craft practiced around the world, handed down through generations, with each artist putting their own spin on an ancient form. Craft is just another form of painting. Whether it's yarn or pigment, these artists are in an ongoing conversation, inspiring one another's creativity. Each piece carries within it the echoes of those who came before.
