Curatorial notes
This is a design for an advertisement by Reinier Willem Petrus de Vries. Look at the recurring motifs—clovers, hearts, and geometric patterns—that frame the text. The clover, a symbol deeply rooted in ancient beliefs, often signifies luck, prosperity, and divine grace. Consider its echoes in Celtic art and later adoptions in Christian iconography representing the Holy Trinity. The heart, universally understood as a symbol of love and emotion, also appears here. Notice how these motifs, through repetition, embed themselves into the collective psyche. These symbols have undergone various transformations, influenced by social and psychological contexts. The cyclical return of these motifs reminds us that human culture is characterized by an inexorable desire to imbue our surroundings with meaning.
