This blanket was made anonymously with woven textile. The colours of this blanket feel festive, like Christmas wrapping or maybe a picnic blanket. I find it interesting to imagine the maker, sitting at the loom, weaving in red, green, black and yellow. Did they think about the colours clashing or working together in harmony? The textures are also fascinating – the way the fibers create a tactile surface, the fringe with the loose threads gives the blanket a homemade, slightly imperfect quality. You can almost feel the maker's hands at work! Maybe the blanket was intended as a gift for someone special, or for their own personal use, to wrap themselves up in during the cold winter months. I wonder who that man was? The colours and pattern remind me of other textiles I've seen from around the world. How we continue to inspire and inform one another’s creative practice across time. Blankets like this speak to the idea of art as an ongoing, embodied conversation. There is no one right way to read a blanket, allowing for multiple interpretations.
