Here is a vintage photograph of three men perched high on the Colorado River bridge, marking the Arizona-California state line. The image plays with scale and perspective, making the bridge seem both monumental and precarious. I love how the anonymous photographer has captured the texture of the metalwork, the rivets and beams creating a complex network of lines and shadows. The men, dressed in their suits, seem almost nonchalant, their presence adding a human dimension to the industrial landscape. It reminds me of Sol LeWitt's structures, where the repetition of geometric forms creates a kind of visual poetry. There is something both playful and slightly unsettling about this image. Photography, like painting, is about capturing a moment in time, a way of seeing and experiencing the world. This piece invites us to consider the bridges we build, both literal and metaphorical, and the boundaries we cross. It’s a conversation between past and present.
