Marie Louveau-Rouveyre here captures a sea view populated with ships carrying soldiers. The ships, laden with figures, evoke the dynamism of human movement and migration across water, a potent symbol of transition. Consider the ship as a vessel of souls. Its symbolism is ancient, linking back to the Egyptian barque carrying the sun god Ra across the heavens each day. It reappears in the Greek myth of Charon ferrying souls across the river Styx. The ship, therefore, becomes more than a means of transport; it transforms into a powerful metaphor for the journey of life and the passage into the unknown. The collective unconscious recognizes this, reacting to the image of a ship with a deep-seated sense of adventure, fear, and longing. This primal recognition powerfully engages viewers on a subconscious level. The symbol of the ship continues its cyclical progression, reappearing through history, evolving and acquiring new layers of meaning, yet always anchored to our primal understanding of passage and transformation.
