This untitled work is a collaboration between Dan Perjovschi and Alevtyna Kakhidze, made using the simplest of means: black and red marker on what seems to be plain white paper. The directness of the materials mirrors the urgency of the message. The tank, rendered in simple outline, becomes a vessel not of war but of stolen peace. The red ink, with its connotations of blood and alarm, emphasizes the calls to action: stop the war, stop Putin, arm Ukraine. The artists’ choice of such rudimentary tools—markers, which are typically associated with children’s drawings or quick notes—underscores the immediate, unmediated nature of their protest. This isn't about high art; it is a raw, unfiltered response to a crisis. The labor here is not in the intricate craftsmanship but in the bold and defiant act of bearing witness. It challenges us to reconsider the role of art in times of conflict, and whether its value resides in precious materials or in the power of its message.
