This black and white print by Richard Nicolaüs Roland Holst captures the essence of a stained glass window. I can almost feel the artist carefully etching each line, balancing light and shadow to recreate the head in stained glass. It must have been an act of deep looking, and a labor of love. See how the forms are both representational and abstract, fragmented and pieced back together like life itself. It reminds me of my own process, how images come together in fits and starts! I imagine the artist contemplating the original stained glass, thinking about history and faith. Maybe he wanted to capture the play of light through coloured glass, or maybe he was interested in pattern and form. It's all there! This print isn’t just a copy, it’s a conversation between artists across time. Isn't art just a giant collaborative project?
