Eleonora Kissel made this print of a Pueblo scene in New Mexico, and it's all about the dance of lines, isn't it? Look how they build up the forms, scratchy and delicate, a real testament to process. I'm drawn to the way the landscape is rendered: that arid architecture, the dry scrub, rendered in such a way that the sun feels like it's beating down. There's a tactile quality, almost like you can feel the grit of the earth and the rough texture of the adobe. The artist's hand is so present, every mark feels deliberate, a conversation between the artist and the plate. The cross-hatching in the mountains, how it fades into the sky? Beautiful. It reminds me of Agnes Martin's drawings, that same quiet intensity, a love for the land and a dedication to the simple act of mark-making. Art is all about these conversations, whispers across time, don't you think?
