What do you see in this piece, and what symbols stand out to you? Curator: The bamboo background, often paired with images of actors, symbolized resilience and flexibility in the face of criticism. Note how the actor carries a tea set. Perhaps it represents a moment of calm amidst the performance, or maybe it's a symbol for the importance of ritual within their dramatic art? What stories do you think these actors might be telling? Editor: I hadn't considered the tea set as symbolic. That adds a whole new layer of interpretation.
