Olive Forbes Sherman’s vase has a simple color palette, but is rich in texture and form. I can almost see Olive's hands at work, coaxing the clay into these elegant curves, with its brown glaze almost like a satin sheet draped around the form. I wonder what Olive was thinking as they worked? The process of making something like this is so intimate, so hands-on. Each touch, each mark is a decision, a moment of connection between the artist and the medium. The clay is thick, with the shiny glazed surface giving the vase depth. I see the delicate swirls and flourishes, each groove and curve communicating a sense of flow and movement. It makes me think of other artists who work with clay and form. The act of making a vase is such a simple, elemental thing, yet it's filled with possibility. Olive's creation speaks to the ongoing conversation between artists across time, inspiring one another to push boundaries and explore new ways of seeing the world. It embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations, an embodied expression.
