Franz Kline made this drawing of a Seated Woman on paper with ink. It's a whirlwind of marks, and that's what grabs me – the energy of the hand, the immediacy of the gesture. Look how the ink pools in some areas, creating dark, dense pockets, while elsewhere, it's almost like a dry brush effect, skipping and dancing across the surface. You can almost feel him figuring out the pose as he goes. It’s like a dance between control and letting go, a conversation between the eye and the hand. That one dark, almost scribbled area around her knee – it anchors the whole composition, gives it weight. And the way the lines dissolve into nothingness around the edges, it's like the figure is emerging from a cloud of pure energy. Kline reminds me a bit of Cy Twombly, that same willingness to embrace the messy, the unresolved. Art isn't about perfection, it's about the journey, the exploration, the sheer joy of making.
