Brief aan Philip Zilcken

Curatorial notes
This letter to Philip Zilcken, dashed off by Jules Destrée, feels so intimate. The ink meanders across the page, a fluid dance between thought and hand, just like my own process when I'm working on a painting. The paper is slightly yellowed with age, lending a warmth to the scene. The lines of the cursive script create a visual texture, a rhythm of loops and strokes, dark and light, that echo the way I build up layers in my paintings. Look at the flourish of Destrée's signature. It’s a little explosion of energy, a confident gesture that somehow encapsulates the whole message. It reminds me of Cy Twombly's scribbles, the way he turned writing into pure, raw expression. This isn't just about the words; it's about the feeling, the human touch made visible. Like any good work of art, it's an open invitation to imagine the conversation unfolding.
