Preservation Society 

Dan Graziano created "Preservation Society" using oil paint, a traditional medium allowing for rich color and texture. The way the paint is applied, thick and visible, is key to how we experience the work. Notice the brushstrokes, how they capture the light on the building's facade, and suggest the textures of brick and wood. The painting feels immediate, capturing a fleeting moment in time. Graziano’s technique is reminiscent of the Impressionists, who prioritized capturing the essence of a scene over precise detail. But there's also a craft aesthetic at play. Graziano has focused his eye on the simple beauty of an ordinary place. By paying attention to the everyday, he elevates it. In doing so, Graziano reminds us of the importance of preserving not only grand monuments, but also the humble, human-scaled spaces that make up the fabric of our communities.
