Curator: This is one print from a set of twenty-eight slides by Josef Albers, dating from his prolific career but without a specific date. Editor: Immediately, I'm struck by the interplay between the mechanical frame of the slide and the geometric precision within. It feels very much of its time. Curator: Albers’ approach to geometric abstraction is so iconic. These interlocking forms evoke a sense of architectural space, inviting us to consider spatial relationships and perhaps hidden meanings of the objects. Editor: I'm curious about the materials. This looks like a photographic reproduction, perhaps a screen print, which raises questions about its reproducibility and distribution as part of a larger set. Curator: Perhaps these forms reflect our understanding of progress and industrialization, and how those symbols were used at that time. Editor: It’s fascinating how the method of production shapes our interpretation of these very formal, yet also very accessible images.
