The forest can be found in ancient myths and fairy tales, representing the untamed, mysterious aspects of the human psyche. In antiquity, the woods were seen as a place of danger. Recall, for example, the forests evoked by Tacitus when he recounts the Roman encounter with the Germanic tribes. The forest was seen as a place inhabited by wild animals, as well as the uncivilized. The forest remains a place to find oneself, a space where the subconscious comes to the fore, as it is isolated from the constraints of society.
