Albrecht Behmel made this painting, Circling Sharks 1, with pens and possibly acrylics, and at first glance it's a riot of color. It feels less like a serene seascape and more like the inside of someone's head, right? The paint and ink look flat and graphic, almost like cut-out paper, creating a tight, almost claustrophobic space. I’m drawn to how Behmel uses the outlines, these confident black lines that define each shark, but they also create this puzzle-like effect, where the shapes lock together. Look at how one shark’s fin becomes another’s tail. This isn't about realism; it’s about rhythm and movement. It reminds me a little of some of Miró's playful abstractions, but with an edge. It feels like Behmel invites us to dive into the chaotic beauty of art where things don't always have to make perfect sense.
