Eugene Croe made this drawing of a desk, we don't know when, using what looks like watercolour. It's all about the process, isn't it? The way each stroke builds up, like thoughts layering over each other. Notice how the wood grain is meticulously rendered, almost vibrating with the effort to capture its essence. Look closely, you can almost feel the texture of the wood, smooth yet subtly patterned. The artist doesn’t try to hide the marks; each line contributes to the overall impression of the piece. The small keyholes on the drawers, like tiny, dark secrets, add another layer of intrigue. This piece reminds me a bit of some architectural drawings, but with a folk-art sensibility. Croe invites us to see the world with fresh eyes, finding beauty in the everyday. It’s a reminder that art is an ongoing conversation, a playful exchange of ideas, and it embraces ambiguity rather than fixed meanings.
