This small photograph, "Berggezicht met een viaduct bij de Plomb du Cantal," was made by Delizy sometime in the past, we don't know when exactly! It's a landscape, but it's really about a viaduct, that series of arches marching across the scene. The sepia tones give the picture a dreamy, almost faded feel, like an old memory. Look closely, and you’ll see how the light catches the curves of the arches. They repeat, like a visual echo, creating a rhythm that pulls your eye across the image. The rest is just vague. The whole thing reminds me of some of those early modernist landscapes, Cezanne maybe. They were all about structure, about finding a basic form. What does it mean that both the mountain and the viaduct are a kind of structure? Maybe the conversation between humans and nature is a lot more blurry than we think.
