Fernando Calhau made #67. Night Works without any specific date using materials unknown, but it sure seems like it could be printing. This piece reminds me that artmaking is really about process. The two rows of panels, like a series of experiments, explore a limited color palette, almost entirely dark tones. In the upper row, there's this almost tactile quality – a sense of something built up, scraped away, and layered again. Look closely at the third panel from the left in the upper row. You can almost feel the artist’s hand moving, adding a bit, then taking some away, in an ongoing conversation with the surface. I'm reminded of Agnes Martin's work, but with a twist toward the melancholic. Ultimately, it’s not about getting it "right," but about embracing the beauty of the search.
