This wallpaper border was made by George Robin, but when, we don’t know. You know, when I look at this I see how it's all about process, like a dance between control and letting go. I see these vertical stripes of orange and cream, so orderly, but then the artist adds these leaves and flowers, which feels like a rebellion against all that structure. Look at how the flowers are almost like little suns, bursting with energy, while the leaves droop, heavy with their own darkness. And that bottom border, with its cool blue flowers on a black background? It's like a whole other world down there. It puts me in mind of Henri Matisse, the way he uses pattern and color to create a sense of joy and playfulness. I love how it all comes together, or doesn't quite. It's beautiful, but also a little strange, and I think that's what makes it so interesting.
