Curator: This is a photograph by Samuel Bourne, taken from the top of Humayun's Tomb, showing Delhi and its ruins. Editor: It feels so vast, doesn’t it? That hazy horizon – it’s like looking at time itself stretching out. Curator: Absolutely. Bourne was known for his landscapes, and he really captures the scale here. I think it reflects the way the British viewed the subcontinent at the time. Editor: I wonder about the labor involved. Transporting that equipment, the darkroom tents, developing plates in that heat…the hands that built this image and this landscape! Curator: That’s a beautiful point. Bourne’s work, though stunning, exists because of a whole chain of human actions and material conditions. Editor: And it reminds us that even in what seems like a timeless vista, everything's been shaped by someone's effort, seen through their lens. Curator: Right! It's this combination of labor and vision that gives the photograph its poignant weight.
