This waistcoat was created by Lillian Causey; we don’t know when, or with what, but aren't you curious? It's all soft lines, and the palette is gentle, like a whisper. I love the way she approached the design process; you can see how the meticulous pattern must have been soothing to create, each tiny flower and vine carefully rendered. The material itself is intriguing. You get the sense of a light fabric, maybe cotton, almost floating on the page. There’s an area on the lower left where you can see a swatch, and there is this sense of repetition and rhythm like a dance. This reminds me a bit of the work of Ree Morton, with her handmade theatrical props and celebration of the everyday. What's so interesting is the way this waistcoat becomes more than just an object. It's about imagination and dreaming, a soft spot in the world.
