This table clock with a striking and musical mechanism was crafted by Edward Wicksteed. Gilded floral motifs dance around the clock face, symbols of nature's cyclical rhythm and the fleeting beauty of time. Consider the acanthus leaves that embellish this clock. A motif that winds its way from ancient Greek architecture to Roman sculpture, it reappears here, embodying a sense of classical order and vitality. Yet, its presence is not merely decorative. The acanthus, deeply rooted in the soil, is a symbol of regeneration, adorning funerary monuments to represent rebirth and eternal life. Like the hands of a clock, the motifs have a non-linear, cyclical progression. As time ticks on, they resurface, evolve, and take on new meanings, reminding us of the cultural threads that connect us to past generations. This clock does more than measure time; it invites us to contemplate our place within its ceaseless flow.
