About this artwork

Editor: Here we have an X-radiograph of “Doge Leonardo Loredon.” It’s not dated, and the artist is listed as the artist of the original, Danese Cattaneo. It feels…abstract. What do you see in this piece, beyond the obvious subject? Curator: The X-radiograph unveils the hidden layers, quite literally, of the original portrait. It moves beyond the surface image that Cattaneo presented. The work becomes an investigation of the materiality and process behind the image of Doge Loredon. What does it mean to reveal the inner structure like this? Editor: It makes me think about how constructed the image of power was back then, if even the portrait had layers of artifice. Curator: Precisely! And how our perception of that power changes when we see behind the curtain. It makes you wonder what other secrets lie beneath the surface of these historical images, doesn't it? Editor: Definitely gives a new perspective. Thanks!
