Tanigami Konan made this artwork, ‘Bloemen in groot formaat - deel twee’ with what looks like ink on paper. I can only imagine the artist kneeling or sitting on the floor, holding a brush, carefully making these strokes one by one. This work makes me think about how we can experience the same thing in many different ways. Maybe Konan was interested in different perspectives, which is something that painters think a lot about. How do we show something from multiple viewpoints at once? I think Konan knew a lot about the materiality of painting, and this work, which is a book cover, is proof of that. It's exciting to consider how painters from very different places influence each other over long periods. It makes you realize that painters are always in dialogue across generations. They are always working through and playing with the ideas of painting itself. It's a constant conversation, a back-and-forth that keeps the medium alive.
