Victor Vasarely made OUR-2 as a field of black, white, and grey geometric shapes, all shifting and vibrating on the surface. You can tell he was so deeply engaged with an idea, chasing it with such focus and rigor. I wonder if he was listening to music while he was making it, lost in thought, or driven by conversation? There’s something hypnotic in the way the painting operates, a testament to the immersive act of painting itself. The squares, circles, and triangles recede and advance, creating this depth, but also flatness. It’s almost like he's trying to catch something elusive. Vasarely was part of a much larger conversation with other artists, one that continues to inspire us today. It highlights how painting can be a kind of thinking. Rather than seeking to give fixed answers or impose a singular point of view, this painting creates a space for us to reflect, question, and explore our own perceptions.
