Owen Gent dreamt up this picture of a flying cloth sometime in the last century. I can imagine him layering washes of pale blues to create a dreamscape, a sky that isn't quite day or night. The lower form feels heavy, tethered to the green horizon, while the upper object strains to lift off like a jellyfish in the sea. You know, it's funny how objects like these can float in our minds, caught between places, like a half-remembered song. Painters are always conversing with each other across time, riffing on shapes, colours, and ideas. I love how it leaves space for us to ask: What does it mean to take up space, to defy gravity, to be both here and not quite here?
